The City of Cape Town libraries have a tournament in school holiday competing with each other to find the top players in the libraries. The preliminary rounds take place during June/July school holidays and each library will choose 5 players from the knock out rounds to play in the final tournament. The competition will have a few rounds that will include winners for the advance group and rankings, best female player and best beginners. The tournement and chess@libraries initiative is developmental in nature and as neutral safe spaces in the Cape Town communities are the ideal places for young people to meet over a shared passion with caring support.
