Chess Western Province is the regional body responsible for the control and administration of chess in the Cape Town Metropole under the auspices of Chess South Africa. We manage all the premier chess events in the metropole, including the Cape of Good Hope Open, Western Province Open, Western Province Closed and Western Province Chess League.

Since its establishment in 1992, Chess Western Province have become the region with the largest number of adult and youth chess players in South Africa. Some of the strongest chess players in South Africa reside in Cape Town and, over the years, the region has consistently had the most players as part of the teams that represented South Africa at the biennial Fide World Chess Olympiad.

Chess Western Province is the region with the greatest number of chess clubs in South Africa and each year the region hosts the Western Province Chess League which is the largest chess league in Africa.
